LSO FOR 4 Salary $66,232.12 - $82,723.95 annually 

1 position available that can be located in either Prince George or Victoria. 
The screening and assessment is expected to commence early in the new year.

The Ministry of Forests, Lands and Natural Resource Operations is responsible for stewardship of Provincial Crown land and natural resources, and protection of B.C.’s archaeological and heritage resources. Overseeing a land base of 94.8 million hectares, the Ministry supports the sustainable management of forest, mineral and land resources, the prosperity, viability and competitiveness of industries that use them, and public access for a wide range of activities such as hunting, fishing and recreation. The Ministry is responsible for policy development, operational management and implementation, and oversees over 50 statutes and associated regulations.

As an expert in silviculture, reporting to the Forest Establishment Leader, the Forest Investment Officer assesses forestry legislation, policy and best practices and makes recommendations to ensure that forest establishment issues are effectively managed by the Ministry and industry.  This position also leads and coordinates forest establishment initiatives and activities that span the breadth of the discipline, including the Land Based Investment Program (LBIP), current reforestation, and timber supply mitigation (Forests For Tomorrow).

In order to be considered for this position, your application must clearly demonstrate how you meet the education, experience and professional designation requirement as outlined below:

  • University Degree in Forestry or Natural Resources Management; AND

  • A minimum of five (5) years of current, related forestry experience; OR

  • An equivalent combination of experience and education such as, an allied science degree and five (5) years of current, related forestry experience.

  • Preference may be given to those with seven (7) years or more of current, related forestry experience.

  • Must be a fully licensed Registered Professional Forester (RPF), or immediately eligible for registration, with the Association of BC Forest Professionals. *Immediately eligible is defined as being registered as a professional forester in another Canadian jurisdiction and able to transfer that membership immediately to the ABCFP (within 6 months of employment). It is the responsibility of the applicant to have the ABCFP review their qualifications to ensure they meet the necessary requirements.

  • Demonstrated experience supervising technical and professional staff within the past three years (other types of supervision experience such as with contracts, auxiliaries, co-ops may be considered).

Preference may be given to those with any of the following: 

  • Demonstrated experience using GIS to plan forest management activities at a landscape level.

  • Demonstrate experience (and skill) managing a large budget and administering multiple contracts.

  • Project management training and/or experience.

  • Experience leading projects and/or project teams.

If you are not yet registered with the ABCFP, please explain how you are immediately eligible (i.e. currently a registered RFP member in good standing in another Canadian jurisdiction and can immediately transfer to ABCFP) ). It is the responsibility of the applicant to have the ABCFP review their qualifications to ensure they meet the necessary requirements.
