The Manager, Retail Technologies operates at the intersection of business, technology and operations and applies expertise and analytics in client technology solutions and services to design, develop, implement, and maintain strategic roadmaps that deliver collaborative solutions to LDB business units.
The Manager provides highly-valued strategic consulting and solution driven guidance to LDB’s business areas and leads solution discovery, service management and relationship management as it relates to the delivery of Retail Technology services. The Manager develops a thorough understanding of and cultivates strong relationships with the Retail business stakeholders – both leadership and subject matter experts to ensure that devices, tools and technologies are functioning to support core retail organizational functions and business processes.

This position manages the Retail Technologies unit, ensuring effective and efficient delivery of services and support as they relate to the functioning of BC Liquor Stories (BCLS) POS/POR hardware, store administration workstations, inventory scanners, laptops, printers, digital signage, mobile devices and tablets.  This also includes the setup/tear down of pop-up stores for special events as organized by either the LDB or industry-related organizations.
Retail systems and technologies support $1.4 billion in annual gross sales servicing 198 stores throughout the province with approximately 8,000 product offerings. Retail systems and technologies support 700,000 customer transactions per week.

Qualifications:

Education and Experience:
A degree, diploma or certificate in computer science or a related field, and a minimum of 5 years of recent, related experience* or an equivalent of education/work experience.
*Recent, related experience must include:

  • Leading the planning, management and evaluation of IT services in a large, complex organization

  • Applying IT service standards and best practices

  • Achieving desired technical and business results within service level parameters

  • Identifying, adapting and implementing new methods and technologies to improve IT services

  • Developing and maintaining productive working relationships with multiple clients, vendors, contractors and employees

  • Leading and managing IT professionals to support delivery of results.

Preference may be given to those candidates:

  • IT Infrastructure Library (ITIL) foundation training or certification

  • CompTIA A+ certification

  • Experience as an IT professional in a retail/wholesale/distribution business environment 
     

An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.

Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of IT service centre operations, infrastructure, technologies, protocols and standards

  • Knowledge of retail technologies.

  • Knowledge of tends and developments in the information technology industry, especially end-user technologies

  • Knowledge of project and contract management principles and practices

  • Knowledge of multiple desktop and mobile operating systems (e.g. Windows, Linux, Android, iOS, MacOS)

  • Knowledge of principles of effective supervision, including mentoring and coaching

  • Information security standards (e.g. ISO27001, COBIT); Java/J2EE and/or Microsoft .NET platform (.NET: C#, .NET ASP); relational databases on multiple platforms, e.g., Oracle, MS SQL Server, IBM DB2

  • Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC)

  • Demonstrated leadership abilities; ability to lead, direct and develop a team effectively.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and produce results within deadlines

  • Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment.

  • Highly self- motivated and self-directed.
