The DataBC program provides government wide leadership and technical expertise to establish, develop, implement, maintain, and promote the Open Data initiative, the Enterprise Spatial Data Infrastructure and Data Administration strategies. This requires coordination of data administration activities for both enterprise and open data performed by branch data managers, administrators and architects across all sectors.

The Data Architecture Services section ensures that data architectures of individual systems are designed to efficiently support government business processes. It manages Open and Enterprise data models to minimize redundancy and maximize sharing of government information sources. This section is also responsible for developing Open and Enterprise data strategies to improve information sharing, reduce costs and leverage corporate information resources through efficient and effective management, integration and access to a wide variety information sources.

As Data Administrator, you deliver data administration services by providing technical guidance, consultation, technology research, development and implementation on data standards and policy. In this vital role, you provide a wide range of services to the Ministry in the analysis, management, QA and publication of Open and Enterprise data in an integrated data warehouse infrastructure. An effective communicator, you provide Data Management support in the form of maintenance of Data Management and Data Presentation standards, review of data models and maintenance of enterprise meta-content. Highly organized and detailed oriented, you provide expert technical operational and client support in support of the DataBC Catalogue, and data transformation and hosting.

In order to be considered for this position, your application must clearly demonstrate how you meet the education and experience as outlined below: 

  • Degree, diploma, certification or equivalent in the computer science field.

  • A minimum of three years’ experience in data management, principles and practices including: data conversion processes/ETL, data warehousing, data analysis, QA methodology, information engineering principles, relational database theory, standards development and documentation.

  • A minimum of three years’ experience working with Structured Query Language (SQL).

  • Experience with scripting languages such as Python for data conversion, automation, testing and visualization.

Preference may be given to applicants with the following:

  • Working experience and/or expertise in the following technologies: Oracle RDBMS, PL/SQL, Safe Software products (FME Server/Desktop), ESRI ArcGIS Platform, Python, web mapping and presentation.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of data modelling and/or business area analysis techniques.

  • Successful completion of security screening requirements of the BC Public Service, which may include a criminal records check, and/or Criminal Records Review Act (CRRA) check, and/or enhanced security screening checks as required by the ministry (Note: It is important that you read the job posting carefully to understand the specific security screening requirements pertaining to the position).
